FamilyLife’s First iPhone App is in the App Store!

Posted by on Jun 16, 2010 in Ministry | 0 comments

Yesterday FamilyLife got approval from Apple for our first iPhone App. The FamilyLife Audio app lets you listen to recent broadcasts of FamilyLife Today and Real FamilyLife. It also gives you access to transcripts if they are available and the ability to email them to a friend! If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad (lucky!), be sure to download it in the AppStore on your device or at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/familylife-audio/id376833393?mt=8#.

Also, it’s very important to get those first reviews in so if you like what you see, be sure to give it 5 stars and a review!!

Living in Web 2.0

Posted by on Sep 4, 2008 in Culture | 0 comments

One of my roles at FamilyLife is providing technology counsel to the leadership team. In order to serve well, I’ve been immersing myself in the new web, called Web 2.0. This new generation of websites like Facebook, Twitter, and Gmail provide software services via the web rather than just information like Web 1.0.Â

It is interesting to reflect on this trend. As I’ve connected with friends on Facebook, I’ve found myself knowing more about their activities and interests. If someone is traveling or celebrating an event, I’m likely to see it if they share it on their Facebook or “tweet” it on Twitter. But the other thing I’m noticing is that what people share is pretty surface stuff.Â
So what I’m concluding is that people are both more connected and more isolated than ever before. They know about each others activities, see photos of weekend activities and can view each other’s favorite YouTube videos. But, still 25% of Americans report that they have no one with whom they can be transparent.Â
One of the goals we have with eMentoring is to use the connectedness of the Internet to help people go deeper into real life, not just surface issues.Â
Oh, and if you’d like to check out my Web 2.0 life, view my FriendFeed at http://friendfeed.com/butch. You can even be my web friend!

New Website Launching Feb 4

Posted by on Jan 29, 2008 in Ministry | 0 comments

If you’ve been reading our newsletters and blog over the past few years you’ll remember that I have been involved for a couple of years in two major tech projects. The primary one was to replace our database, which we completed in June of last year. However, the other project that I’ve been heavily involved in is the development of our new web platform. After much work and research, the new and improved familylife.com willl launch on Feb 4. I think you’ll find the new site much easier to navigate and more helpful. We’d certainly love to hear your feedback once you check it out.
